Over a year ago, I changed jobs and instead of working 10 minutes away from home, it became a “55 minutes on the bus” journey from home… twice a day.
It meant many changes in my life, besides waking up earlier and getting home later, of course.
It meant that I couldn’t go to yoga as much as I used to, because I just couldn’t make it on time. Which meant that I couldn’t make it to that time of the day that I felt was “mine”, and made me feel so good.
A friend from work inspired me and came with me to buy a bike. He has ridden to work every day for years now, and we live in the same area.
In the beginning, I thought “Wow, I’m not sure I’ll be able to do it with a normal bike, maybe I’ll have to by an electric one”.
Well, he started riding with me patiently every single day, and yes, I was able to make it and enjoy it every time.
Riding my bike to work not only takes me less time than the bus (yes, unbelievable), but also:
* Helps me to start the day in the best way, getting exercise with an amazing view.
* When I can’t make it to yoga or something else, it’s not as much of a loss, since at least I had my 40 minutes riding my bike to work (and back).
* It takes me out of my routine, city environment momentarily.
Overcoming this small personal challenge has shown me that by putting in a little extra
effort, and not giving up, I am able to do far more than I thought.
What is your personal challenge today?
